2007 Lincoln Prize Winner
By Samuel P. Wheeler | February 13, 2007
Congratulations to Douglas L. Wilson, who has been named this year’s winner of the prestigious Lincoln Prize. Wilson’s book Lincoln’s Sword: The Presidency and the Power of Words examines Lincoln’s most eloquent presidential papers and is most deserving of the top prize in Lincoln Studies. He, along with Allen Guelzo, are now the only scholars to win the award twice.
The award includes a $50,000 cash prize, a replica of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ life-sized bust, “Lincoln the man,” and recognition at a formal ceremony in New York City in April. The award was established by Richard Gilder and Lewis Lehrman and is administered by Gettysburg College. It has been handed out since 1990 and past winners include Ken Burns, James McPherson, and Doris Kearns Goodwin. Here is a link to a complete list of past winners.
